REVIEW: The Choosing by Rachelle Dekker

REVIEW: The Choosing by Rachelle Dekker

{About the Book}

“Not to be Chosen would yield a cruel fate of my own making.”

Like all citizens since the Ruining, Carrington Hale knows the importance of this day. But she never expected the moment she’d spent a lifetime preparing for—her Choosing ceremony—would end in disaster. Ripped from her family, she’ll spend her days serving as a Lint, the lowest level of society. She knows it’s her duty to follow the true way of the Authority.

But as Carrington begins this nightmare, rumors of rebellion rattle her beliefs. The whispers contradict everything she’s been told; yet they resonate deep within.

Then Carrington is offered an unprecedented chance at the life she’s always dreamed of, but she can’t shake the feeling that it may be an illusion. With a killer targeting Lints and corruption threatening the highest levels of the Authority, Carrington must uncover the truth before it destroys her.

{My Review}

Again, another gorgeous cover! The Choosing is a Dystopian novel that deals withe the issue of self-worth...and I LOVED it!! Someone said if Francine Rivers were to write a Dystopian book that this would be the book. I would have to agree completely with that person. Most people have heard of Rachelle's father, Ted Dekker, but Rachelle brings to Christian Fiction a bold and fresh new voice to the genre. Pick up this book you won't be sorry.

REVIEW: Maggie Bright by Tracy Groot

REVIEW: Maggie Bright by Tracy Groot

{About the Book}

"England, 1940." Clare Childs knew life would change when she unexpectedly inherited the "Maggie Bright"--a noble fifty-two-foot yacht. In fact, she's counting on it. But the boat harbors secrets. When a stranger arrives, searching for documents hidden onboard, Clare is pulled into a Scotland Yard investigation that could shed light on Hitler's darkest schemes and prompt America to action.Across the Channel, Hitler's "Blitzkrieg" has the entire British army in retreat with little hope for rescue at the shallow beaches of Dunkirk. With time running out, Churchill recruits civilian watercraft to help. Hitler is attacking from land, air, and sea, and any boat that goes might not return. Yet Clare knows "Maggie Bright" must answer the call--piloted by an American who has refused to join the war effort until now and a detective with a very personal motive for exposing the truth.The fate of the war hinges on this rescue. While two men join the desperate fight, a nation prays for a miracle.

{My Review}

This cover is seriously one of the most beautiful covers I have seen in a LONG time. Whoever designed it did a phenomenal job. My cover gushing aside, I realyl enjoyed this book. Set in 1940s England, during WWII, Maggie Bright gives us a look into the war. While I did enjoy the book overall there were a few chapters that did seem to slow down and become a bit dull at times. Which is why I dropped the rating down to four stars. If your looking for a great Historical Fiction novel then I recommend you pick up this one.

Forced to work together, Chase and Stella battle their chemistry and their pasts as they struggle to compromise and come together on a vision for the theater. Their wills clash as they attempt to hide their brokenness and their unresolved feelings for each other until Chase breaks through Stella s walls and convinces her to enter her mosaic tile art in a contest.

A near catastrophe, a fire, and a small-town gossip mill finally force both Stella and Chase to realize that they have a choice to hold on to the shards of their pasts, or surrender their fragmented pieces to the One who makes a beautiful masterpiece from the broken. "

{My Review}

This is going to be a short and quick snack-sized review guys. Love Arrives in Pieces was one of the cutest books I have read in a while. Betsey St. Amant is a fresh voice in Christian fiction and I very much look forward to her next book.

Top 5 Wednesday: Books You Read in One Sitting

Top 5 Wednesday: Books You Read in One Sitting

1. There You'll Find Me by Jenny B. Jones- This book is a gem. It was my first Jenny B. Jones book I read and it quickly became one of my favourite books of all time. It's also the book that got me into the contemporary genre. It's set in Ireland, the romance is so sweet, and the story deals with the issue of letting go.

2. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers- If you haven't read this book yet then stop reading my post and go get yourself a copy!!! Redeeming Love is one of my favourite books of all time!

3. Blood Bayou by Karen Young- This is the only book by Karen Young I have read and I have no clue why. The writing was great and the story was so fast paced. If you like murder mysteries with romance mixed in then this is the book for you.

4. Angel Eyes by Shannon Dittemore- Angel Eyes is the first book in the Angel Eyes trilogy and I inhale read this book. I think I finished it on only two and a half hours. I could not put it down. Angel Eyes is the story of a girl who can see into the supernatural world and there are angels (of course) and demons all around.

5. A Sparrow in Terezin by Kristy Cambron- This is book #2 in a duology, A Sparrow in Terezin is told from two different POVs from two different time periods. I've never read a book where the POVs were from two different times and it was fantastic.
